Sketchers Lowell brings local artists together at inspiring locations throughout the city. Whether you sketch, watercolor, ink, or paint, our gatherings are a chance to slow down, connect with others, and capture the beauty of Lowell.

Artist Meetup Schedule
We are Sketchers Lowell. Come with us: slow down, look closer, and capture Lowell as YOU see it. We are Michael and Susan, the founders of a group to explore Lowell, one image at a time. This is a free community project that meets one Sunday afternoon per month. If you are an experienced or aspiring artist, or just curious, you are welcome. We meet at various locations to draw, paint, and photograph our beloved Mill City. Come explore the river and the monuments, the homes and businesses, the canals and mills of Lowell with Sketchers Lowell.

Sketchers Lowell is a monthly free urban sketch group where people come together to draw, paint, and/or photograph our historic, beautiful Mill City of Lowell, Massachusetts and connect with other creatives.

Urban sketching is the practice of drawing or painting on location, capturing what you see in real time. Sketchers Lowell also welcomes photographers and mixed media artists.

Everyone. All skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced artists, are welcome.

That’s perfectly fine. This is a relaxed, supportive environment. There’s no pressure, just come and enjoy the process.

No registration is required. Just show up and join us.

No. It’s completely free to attend and make art. We each purchase our own snacks at
our social time afterward.

Bring whatever you like to work with: sketchbook, paints, pencils, and/or a camera. A hat, sunscreen, and folding chair are optional but recommended depending on your set-up.

No formal instruction. This is not a class. However, people share ideas, tips, techniques, and encouragement with each other.

Each monthly meet-up has a specific location in Lowell, MA announced ahead of time.

Once a month, typically on a Sunday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm. We hope to add special occasion meetups as we grow.

We gather at the starting point, talk for a moment about the location, then spread out to sketch in the surrounding area. At the end, we regroup and head to a local restaurant to relax and connect.

Not at all. Come and go as you please.

We relocate to an indoor location, usually at Western Avenue Studios. Updates will be posted on our website, sketcherslowell.org . During winter, our meet-ups will occur indoors.

Absolutely. The more the merrier.

Yes. Photographers are welcome to join and participate.
